Welcome to Angling ("we", "our", or "us"). We are committed to protecting your personal information and your right to privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and any related services (collectively, the "Service").

Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. If you disagree with its terms, please discontinue use of the application.

By using Angling, you consent to the data practices described in this policy. We built Angling with privacy in mind — your session data belongs to you, and we never sell it to third parties.

2. Information We Collect

Information You Provide Directly

  • Account Information: Name and email address when you create an account or sign in.
  • Session Data: Information you log during fishing sessions, including location names, species caught, bait types, methods, weather observations, voice notes, and photos you choose to add.
  • Session Summary: Any written notes or descriptions you add to completed sessions.
  • Scheduled Sessions: Future trip details you enter when scheduling a session.

Information Collected Automatically

  • Location Data: GPS coordinates when you start a session (to pin your session on the map). We only collect location during active sessions unless you grant persistent location access.
  • Weather Data: We automatically fetch current weather data (temperature, pressure, humidity, wind, moon phase) for your session location from a third-party weather API.
  • Session Metadata: Start time, end time, session duration, and app usage patterns.
  • Device Information: Device type, operating system version, and app version for debugging and compatibility purposes.

In-App Purchases

All subscription purchases (Free to Pro upgrades) are processed entirely through Apple App Store or Google Play. We do not collect, store, or process any payment card information. Billing records are maintained solely by Apple or Google per their privacy policies.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide the Service: Store and display your session history, generate session timelines, and deliver the core app functionality.
  • Fetch Contextual Data: Retrieve weather information for your session location automatically.
  • Sync Across Devices: Keep your session data consistent across devices linked to your account.
  • Generate Reports: Create session summaries and export documents for Pro users.
  • Improve the App: Understand how features are used to fix bugs and improve performance (using anonymised, aggregated data only).
  • Future AI Features: Pro subscribers will have access to AI-powered insights. These will be generated using your session data in a privacy-preserving manner and will be detailed in an updated policy before launch.
  • Customer Support: Respond to your requests, questions, and feedback.
  • Legal Compliance: Fulfil legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.

4. Sharing Your Information

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share data only in the following limited circumstances:

  • Service Providers: We use trusted third-party vendors to operate the Service (e.g., cloud hosting, weather API providers, analytics). These providers are contractually obligated to protect your data and may not use it for any other purpose.
  • Weather APIs: Your approximate location is sent to a weather data provider to retrieve conditions. This is a one-way request — no personal identity is shared.
  • Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities.
  • Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, your data may be transferred. We will notify you of any such change and your rights in that situation.
We never sell your data. Your fishing sessions, catches, and location history are yours alone.

5. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored securely on cloud servers. We implement industry-standard security measures including:

  • Encryption in transit (TLS/HTTPS) for all data transmitted between the app and our servers.
  • Encryption at rest for stored session data, voice notes, and photos.
  • Access controls limiting which team members can access user data.
  • Regular security audits and vulnerability assessments.

However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. If you delete your account:

  • Your session data, photos, and voice notes will be deleted within 30 days.
  • Anonymised, aggregated data (with no personally identifiable information) may be retained for service improvement purposes.
  • We may retain certain information for a limited period if required for legal compliance or dispute resolution.

7. Your Rights & Choices

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction: Request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your account and associated data.
  • Export: Export your session data in a portable format (Pro users can export directly from the app).
  • Location Permissions: You can revoke location access at any time in your device settings. Note that location is required for session map features to function.
  • Marketing Communications: You can opt out of any promotional emails by following the unsubscribe link or contacting us.

8. Children's Privacy

Angling is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you become aware that a child has provided us with personal information without parental consent, please contact us and we will take steps to remove such information.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. When we make material changes, we will:

  • Update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy.
  • Notify you via in-app notification or email for significant changes.

Your continued use of the Service after such changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
